‘Aaraattu’ to ‘Bheeshma Parvam’: Movies with the most disappointing climaxes

As the writer, Blake Snyder mentioned in his book ‘Save the Cat’, every film’s success depends on its well-crafted climax. If a movie’s climax is underwhelming then it can affect the movie as a whole and the audience would be feeling a kind of dissatisfaction. Here let’s take a look at some of the Malayalam movies that had the most terrible endings.

Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer ‘Lollipop’ is already a mess with some good comedies delivered by the ace actor Suraj Venjaramoodu. On top of the lousy script, the film offered a very underwhelming and logicless climax. The whole story is narrated by Jayasurya’s character and in the climax, it’s shown that his character has already died and the narration was done by his ghost to Jagathy’s character. This logicless scene had every viewer’s head scratching and for the same reason, the movie was not received well by the audiences.

It’s a common issue for a movie that comes under the psychological thriller genre that most ones will be having a disappointing climax that will be affecting the movie as a whole. The Asif Ali starrer ‘Hi I’m Tony’ started as a well-built psychological thriller and towards its end, the director Lal Jr, with the aim of creating an unexpected ending, missed the mark and the movie turned out to be disappointing.

Mohanlal’s latest film is the best example of how you can destroy an entertainer film with a lousy and cliche ending. ‘Aaraattu’, directed by B Unnikrishnan, started as a good entertainer that follows the old 90s Mollywood action entertainers and the movie ended on a very underwhelming note. Lots of criticisms were made about the film as a whole and especially the ending, where Mohanlal’s character is said to be an undercover agent and they even teased the audience for a second part!

One can’t completely hate the Amal Neerad – Mammootty film ‘Bheeshma Parvam’, but one can definitely say that the movie ended on an underwhelming note. Although ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ was supposed to be showcasing the macho style of Mammootty as the lead character Michael, the movie ended up draining out his complete power and passing out to a weak character played by Soubin Shahir who was not even capable of pulling off the climax sequences perfectly. ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ ending is indeed a big disappointment for even Mammootty fans.
