Firaaq on Amazon Prime Video

Released more than a decade ago, Firaaq is a political thriller that revolves around the chaos caused after the riots in Gujarat occurred in 2002. Helmed by Nandita Das, the movie has a stellar star cast including Deepti Naval, Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shahana Goswami, Raghubir Yadav, Sanjay Suri, and Tisca Chopra. The movie received critical acclaim and won several awards as well as two National Awards. It created quite a controversy and its screening was banned in Gujarat.

Black Friday on Disney Plus Hotstar

The movie is a loose adaptation of Black Friday: The True Story of the Bombay Bomb Blasts penned by Hussain Zaidi. This crime thriller directed by Anurag Kashyap starring Kay Kay Menon, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Imtiaz Ali, and Aditya Srivastava revolves around Bombay bombings that took place in 1993. The movie created a big controversy after the Bombay High Court stopped its release. It first premiered in Switzerland at a film festival in 2004 but was released in India in 2007 after a court hearing.

The Exorcist on Netflix

This Jason Miller, Linda Blair, Max von Sydow, and Ellen Burstyn movie was one of the most horrifying movies full of terror when it was released in 1973. The film was accused of adding more glory to the character of Satan. Interestingly, the movie grabbed the headlines when its 13-year-old actress Blair received threats for her role in the film. After being banned in the UK for some time it was re-released after more than two decades.

The Interview on Netflix

This is a political satire helmed by Seth Rogen and created quite a controversy. The movie is about two journalists James Franco and Seth Rogen who get the opportunity to interview Kim Jong-un, the big leader of North Korea. However, things become complicated when they are recruited by the CIA for assassinating the North Korean leader. North Korean leaders slammed the movie and even the then US President Barack Obama for allowing its release in the United States.

The Last Temptation of Christ on Hulu

The Last Temptation of Christ is a movie by Martin Scorsese based on a novel by the same name. Since the novel had created quite a controversy, it was expected that the movie will also trigger some amount of upheaval. It shows Christ (portrayed by Willem Dafoe) battling different temptations like reluctance, lust, doubt, and fear which did not go down well with the Christian communities and there were strong protests from Christian religious groups against the movie.

The movie created quite a stir across the world with a few people putting a Paris theater on fire while some countries like Greece, Singapore, Turkey, Chile, and the Philippines banned its release.
