Keeping that in mind, here is the list of five celebrities who have invested in football clubs.
LeBron James (Liverpool)
The basketball icon starts off the list of celebrities who have invested in football clubs. He has been a long-time supporter of Liverpool, and is also an investor in the team. He has a two percent stake in the team, after it was acquired by the FSG.
Will Ferrell (Los Angeles FC)
LAFC won the MLS title this year, and they celebrated with Will Ferrell drinking out of the club. In 2016, he was named the owner of the club, which began competing in 2018. Now, El Trafico sees one of the most successful MLS clubs, Los Angeles Galaxy, compete against their new local rivals in the Derby.
Elton John (Watford)
Elton John is a household name from the music industry, and was once the owner of Watford. Under his ownership, the club moved from the fourth tier to the top division. He sold the club in 1987, but repurchased it later. Once he calls time on his music career next summer, he is expected to be more involved in the matters of the club.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (Wrexham)
Ryan Reynolds is arguably the most famous among celebrities who have invested in football clubs. He owns Wrexham FC along with Rob McElhenney, and are now trying to lead the club into the Football League.
Matthew McConaughey (Austin FC)
Matthew McConaughey owns Austin FC, formed in 2018 which started competing in 2021. They had a difficult first season, but moved to the Western Conference final – earning qualification to the CONCACAF Champions League in their next year.
