4 Vicky Kaushal Movies Based On Real Life Stories & People Like ‘Sam Bahadur’

Sam Bahadur’s first teaser may not have revealed much about the film, but it has definitely piqued the audience’s interest. Without even revealing his face, Vicky Kaushal has managed to generate a significant buzz for the movie which will be released next year.

The movie also stars Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Manoj Bajpayee, and is directed by Meghna Gulzar. It marks Vicky Kaushal’s second collaboration with the director after Raazi. Sam Bahadur will be based on the life of Sam Manekshaw,India’s first Field Marshal who was instrumental in the creation of Bangladesh during the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Vicky Kaushal is playing a role inspired by real events and people.

1. Raazi

The movie was an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s spy thriller novel, Calling Sehmat. It told the real-life story of Sehmat Khan, a Kashmiri woman and RAW agent who married a Pakistani military officer at her father’s request and became a spy for India, relaying important information prior to the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Vicky Kaushal played the role of Syed Iqbal, Sehmat’s husband, and received immense praise for his performance in the film.

2. Sanju

The biopic on Sanjay Dutt’s tumultuous life brought Ranbir Kapoor rave reviews for embodying the physical attributes and spirit of the infamous actor. However, it also threw a spotlight on Sanju’s friendship with Kamli, played by Vicky Kaushal. Kamli was based on Sanjay Dutt’s real-life best friend, Paresh Ghelani.

3. Uri: The Surgical Strike

The film was based on a 2016 surgical strike by the Indian Army on Pakistan’s terrorist camps in response to their attack on an army camp in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir. The movie was a blockbuster hit and became popular for its dialogue, “How’s the josh? High sir!” Vicky Kaushal spent a lot of time with Indian Army soldiers and based his character on Major Prashant Siwach, who is also a Shaurya Chakra awardee.

4. Sardar Udham

Though Sardar Udham was released directly on OTT platform (Amazon Prime Video), it became a huge success and earned Vicky Kaushal the Filmfare Award for Best Actor (Critics) and Best Film (Critics). The film was based on Udham Singh, an Indian revolutionary who assassinated Michael O’ Dwyer to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre where hundreds of innocent civilians lost their lives.
