Bollywood celebrities are always in the limelight, aren’t they? And it’s not just their acting that makes it to the headlines. All else aside, how many of us knew that the one habit common amongst many Bollywood celebrities is making investments, especially in startups?

1. Deepika Padukone

Besides being amongst the topmost actors of Bollywood, Deepika Padukone even leads from the front when it comes to investing in startups. She reportedly holds a diversified portfolio involving multiple investments such as Drums Food International, the parent company of flavoured Greek yoghurt brand Epigamia; Bengaluru-based space tech startup Bellatrix Aerospace; learning and community edtech platform FrontRow, digital pet care platform Supertails.com and Electric vehicles startup BluSmart.

Even Deepika’s KA Enterprises LLP, which she set up in 2017 with former investment banker Nitin Kanchan, made primary investments with furniture rental platform Furlenco and beauty marketplace Purplle.

2. Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline’s love for fitness is known by almost everyone. In line with that, she had invested in a Mumbai-based start-up Rakyan Beverages, which sells juices under the brand Raw Pressery. Interestingly, it’s the first company in India to acquire a unique HPP (high-pressure processing) technology, which boosts the shelf-life of products, besides maintaining the nutrition in natural products.

3. Shilpa Shetty Kundra

Yoga queen Shilpa Shetty had reportedly invested around ₹1.6 crore in babycare startup MamaEarth in the 2018. It’s Asia’s first brand whose products are ‘MADE SAFE’ certified. The brand ensures it uses only the best available ingredients which are ISO, GMP & Non-GMO compliant.

Shilpa also launched a holistic wellness and health app named Simple Soulful, which is designed by experts of Yoga, Exercise, Immunity and Diet Programs.

4.Sonu Sood

Not that he wasn’t famous earlier, but Sonu Sood’s popularity spiked since the pandemic struck thanks to the immense help he offered in every possible way to whoever needed it. From helping the displaced reach home to assisting those looking for oxygen cylinders, he did it all. 

Speaking of investments, he has reportedly invested in a rural fintech startup named Spice Money, which aims to digitally and financially empower one crore rural entrepreneurs.

5. Ayushmann Khurrana

Talking of Bollywood celebrities, one name that has won everyone’s hearts in recent years, is Ayushmann Khurrana.  Adding another feather to his cap, he reportedly made his first investment a couple of years ago in 2019. 

Initially, he was just the face of the brand The Man Company, but later he turned into an investor as well by putting his money into Helios Lifestyle Private Limited, the startup behind this men’s premium grooming products brand.

6. Alia Bhatt 

This young actress is always in the news for one reason or the other, and undoubtedly, holds the tag of being one of the most popular Bollywood celebrities in recent times. Besides having come a long way in her acting career, she has stepped up as an investor too by picking up a stake in fashion startup Style Cracker and investing in fashion and beauty brand Nykaa as well, which recently went public.

7. Shraddha Kapoor

This Bollywood actress is also amongst the ones bitten by the startup bug. In 2021 itself, she invested in the D2C beauty brand MyGlamm, besides endorsing its products too. The brand sells most of its products through its own website, app and retail touch points through various stores.

8. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is not just a beautiful and fine actress, but also an investor. She had bought stakes in Possible, a nutrition-based health tech startup. Not just that, she reportedly also invested ₹50 lakh in Bangalore-based environmental intelligence startup Ambee. Ambee provides hyperlocal air quality data to developers, consumers, health researchers, and media companies to help them with better decision making.

9. Katrina Kaif

Katrina is undoubtedly one of the highest-paid actresses in Bollywood. And in the recent few years, not only has she launched her own makeup brand Kay Beauty, but also invested in fashion and beauty brand Nykaa, which recently went public through an IPO.

10. Priyanka Chopra

Last but certainly not the least, actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas is also amongst the Bollywood celebrities who are investors. In 2018, she made an investment in Bumble, a US-based dating app, where she is also a partner and an adviser. 

Besides this, Priyanka also invested close to ₹59 crores in Hobert school, which helps students to learn programming as well as the soft skills required to find a job. It is said to allow students to study for free until they find a job after graduation. 

And that’s not all, Priyanka also invested an undisclosed amount in Apartment list, which is a US technology based real estate company, which acts as an online marketplace for apartment listings.
